Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Turkish coffee added to the slimming diet on anthropometric measurements and lipid profiles. Material and Method: The material of the study consisted of 176 participants between the ages of 18-65, who were referred to the Dietary Polyclinic for weight loss from the Endocrinology Polyclinic whose BMI was greater than 25 kg / m2.176 participants were divided into two groups as control and experimental group. Each group consisted of 88 participants, 44 male and 44 female. In addition to the planned diet programs, it was recommended to drink a cup of Turkish coffee every day. The control group participants were not given additional Turkish coffee outside the recommended diet program. The control group was asked to apply only slimming diet. Result: A significant weight loss was observed in the experimental and control groups. There was a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in the control and anthropometric measurements (BMI) of the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). Statistically significant difference was found between pre-test and post-test in total cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride levels of men and women in experimental group (p<0.05). A significant difference was observed between pre-test and post-test in total cholesterol and triglyceride levels of men in control group (p<0.05). A significant difference was found between pre-test and post-test in total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglyceride measurements of control group women (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result, in addition to the weight loss diet, a proper amount of regularly consumed coffee has been shown to cause more weight loss. Keywords: Anthropometric measurements; dietary; lipid profiles; Turkish coffee Nimet YILDIZ, Master Thesis
