Abstract
Babesiosis is a tick-borne disease with clinical features similar to malaria which is caused by intraerythrocytic protozoa. Its frequency is gradually increasing. The pathogenesis of babesiosis is associated with the host's immune response and membrane modification that the agent activates on the erythrocyte membrane. Babesia lyses intermittently after infecting erythrocytes. Babesia undergoes lysis intermittently after infecting erythrocytes. As the merozoites lyse the erythrocytes, symptoms and complications due to infection occur. The disease course is closely associated with the host immune response, which has been shown to be related to excessive proinflammatory cytokine release in animal experiments. © 2022 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
