Abstract
In the field of education, the terms authority and anti-authority were a matter of controversy especially in 1970s. However, this controversy on the style of child education still continues today. In Turkey there are many children?s boks which are didactic. Although children?s books which reflekt a child?s reality and perspective and which arouse the feelings of freedom and self-confidence in children have been written recently, they are few in number. In the 1970s in the Austrian child literature didactic aspect of child literature was replaced by literary style and adopting child?s point of view. The author, abandonning the role of authority, has gained a mission of solving the problems in cooperation with children. In the study, the relationship that an author of child literature should establish with children, his narrative style and the attitude (authoritarian or anti-authoritarian) through which he conveys his message have been studied. This study is limited with the books ?Conrad the Factory Made Boy? by Christine Nöstlinger and ?Fadiş? by Gülten Dayıoğlu. After the books have been compared in terms of authotarian institutions, such as family, school, teacher, student, friendship and environment, it has been concluded that the authors? attempt to impose his own ideas on the child, and presenting the events sunbjectively without using emotional and rhetorical effects limits the child?s comprehension and creats children with a nonquestioning state of mind.Key WordsChild literature, authority, anti-authority, education, emancipation.
