Abstract
The town of Daquq is one of the rare cities in Iraq inhabited by Turks since the depths of history until today. It has suffered from many invasions since the first periods of history due to its location of geographically transitional place. For this reason, information available on the first periods of the city is limited. However, the fact that it is an ancient city shows that it has been an important center of culture and civilization since the earliest times. The Turkmen poet Reşit Ali Dakuklu grew up in this geographical zone and acted as a guide for the Turkmen people with the poems and rudiments he wrote during his lifetime. He set forth his ideas for how society should be in his poems and writings. Reşit Ali Dakuklu handled national concerns with wisdom, diligence, compassion and fraternity in his works. His poems are exclusively written in rhymed syllabic meter. Object of this study is to translate Rashid Ali Dakuklu's piece called the 'Adherent to wound' into contemporary Turkey Turkish while emphasizing Iraqi Turkmen literature and familiarise readers with his personality. Study covers the biographical information concerning Reşit Ali Dakuklu, his works and the writings about him. In addition to this, the poems and hoyrat (ditty) found in his piece are classifed according to their subject matters. Furthermore, by adding the 'dictionary' section to the study, the poems were made better understandable. Turkmen population living in Iraqi geography and their cities can be regarded as spiritual component of Turkey as long as we introduce Iraqi Turkmen literature, history and civilization in Turkey. Keywords: Kirkuk, Daquq, Turkmen Folk Poetry, Rough, Reşit Ali Dakuklu, Adherent to wound
