Abstract

A new benzimidazole compound, methyl 1-n-butyl-2-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1H- benzimidazole-5-carboxylate, C<inf>19</inf>H<inf>18</inf>Cl<inf>2</inf>-N <inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>, has been synthesized by the condensation of methyl 3-amino-4-(n-butylamino)benzoate with an Na<inf>2</inf>S<inf>2</inf>O <inf>5</inf> adduct of 3,4-dichlorobenzaldehyde. The molecule is twisted with a C-C-C-N torsion angle of -39.7 (3)° between the phenyl and benzimidazole groups. In the crystal structure, symmetry-related molecules are linked by C-H ⋯ O interactions, forming a chain. © 2004 International Union of Crystallography Printed in Great Britain - all rights reserved.
