Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of video-image assisted adjustment program applied to the patients admitted to the psychiatry clinic for the first time on their anxiety and social stigma perceptions. Material and Method: The study, which was planned in the experimental design, was conducted between 24.01.2019-02.09.2019 with 37 individuals (21 control, 16 experimental) who were admitted to the psychiatry clinics of Samsun Mental Health and Diseases Hospital for the first time. 'Introductory Information Form', 'State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)' and 'Stigma Scale for Receiving Psychological Help (SSRPH)' were used as the data collection tools. Pre-tests were applied to the individuals in both groups after standard information was provided by the clinic nurse. While no application was performed on the control group, 'Video-Image Assisted Adjustment Program' was applied to the experimental group. Post-test measurements were performed 2 hours after the pre-test in the control group and after the intervention in the experimental group. Descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, independent t test and paired sample t test were used in the analysis of the data. Findings: While no significant difference was found between the STAI and SSRPH pre-test and post-test scores of the control group (p>0.05), a significant difference was determined between the pre-test and post-test scores of the scales in the experimental group (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that Video-Image Assisted Adjustment Program was effective in decreasing the anxiety and stigma levels of the patients admitted to psychiatry clinics for the first time.
