Samsun'da Eğitim Aile Sağlığı Merkezlerine Başvuran Erişkinlerin Epilepsi Hakkındaki Bilgi Düzeyleri ve Tutumları: Kesitsel Bir Çalışma

Abstract

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada, erişkinlerin epilepsi hakkındaki bilgi düzeyleri ve tutumlarının değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Bu kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Ağustos-Eylül 2022 tarihleri arasında bir anket ile yapıldı. Ankette kişisel bilgi formu, Epilepsi Bilgi Ölçeği (EBÖ) ve Epilepsi Tutum Ölçeği (ETÖ) kullanıldı. BULGULAR: Çalışmaya toplam 406 kişi katıldı. Yaş ortalaması 39,4±13,6 yıl ve %54,2'si kadındı. Katılımcıların EBÖ ortalama puanı 9,9±3,1, ETÖ ortalama puanı 56,8±8,9'du. Üniversite mezunu olanların (p=0,001), epilepsili birey tanıyanların (p<0,001), ailesinde epilepsili olanların (p<0,001), epilepsi nöbeti geçiren birini görenlerin (p<0,001), daha önce epilepsiyi duyanların (p<0,001) ve epilepsi ile ilgili bir şeyler okuyanların (p<0,001) epilepsi bilgi puan ortalamaları daha yüksekti. Otuz beş yaşından genç olanların (p=0,002), evli olmayanların (p<0,001), üniversite mezunu olanların (p<0,001), çalışanların (p=0,008), çocuk sahibi olanların (p<0,001), epilepsili birey tanıyanların (p=0,016), ailesinde epilepsili olanların (p=0,023), epilepsi nöbeti geçiren birini görenlerin (p<0,001), daha önce epilepsiyi duyanların (p=0,012) ve epilepsi ile ilgili bir şeyler okuyanların (p<0,001) epilepsiye yönelik tutum puan ortalamaları daha yüksekti. Epilepsi bilgi düzeyi arttıkça epilepsiye karşı olumlu tutum da artıyordu (r=0,387; p<0,001). SONUÇ: Katılımcıların epilepsi bilgi düzeyleri orta düzeyde, epilepsiye karşı olumlu tutumlar vardı. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the levels of knowledge and attitudes of adults toward epilepsy. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between August and September 2022. A personal information form, the Epilepsy Knowledge Scale (EKS) and the Epilepsy Attitude Scale (EAS) were used in the questionnaire. Results: Four hundred and six individuals participated in this study. The mean age of the participants was 39.4±13.6 years, and 54.2% were women. The mean EKS score was 9.9±3.1, and the mean EAS score was 56.8±8.9. University graduates (p=0.001), participants acquainted with individuals with epilepsy (p<0.001), with epilepsy patients in the family (p<0.001), who had witnessed epileptic seizures (p<0.001), who had previously heard about epilepsy (p<0.001), and who had read about epilepsy (p<0.001) registered higher mean epilepsy knowledge scores. Participants aged over 35 (p=0.002), unmarried individuals (p<0.001), university graduates (p<0.001), the employed (p=0.008), participants with children (p<0.001), who knew individuals with epilepsy (p=0.016), with epilepsy patients in the family (p=0.023), who had witnessed epileptic seizures (p<0.001), who had previously heard about epilepsy (p=0.012), and who had read about epilepsy (p<0.001) registered higher mean attitudes to epilepsy scores. Positive attitudes to epilepsy increased in line with levels of knowledge of epilepsy (r=0.387; p<0.001). Conclusion: Participants exhibited moderate levels of knowledge about epilepsy and positive attitudes toward the disease. Increasing levels of knowledge were associated with increasingly positive attitudes toward epilepsy. Keywords: epilepsy, knowledge, attitude, adult
