Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the effective communication skills and multifaceted leadership levels of students studying at the faculty of sports sciences in terms of some socio-demographic characteristics. A descriptive relational screening model was used in the study. The sample of the research consists of 347 students studying at OMU Yaşar Doğu Sports Sciences Faculty. Effective communication skills and multifaceted leadership orientation scales were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data obtained from the scales, Student's t-test was used to compare two independent groups (gender, sport type, etc.), and one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's multiple comparison test were applied for more than two groups (age, income, etc.). The relationship between students' effective communication skills and multifaceted leadership orientations was determined by Pearson correlation coefficient. In the study, it was found that female students had higher active participation listening sub-dimension total scores than male students, charismatic leadership sub-dimension total scores of students who declared that they were low and middle income were lower than students who declared that they had high income, Recreation Department students had lower scores than Coaching Education Department students. It was determined that the total scores of the self-awareness/disclosure and self-language subscales were higher, and those whose sports age was 7 years and above had higher effective communication skills and leadership orientations than those who were not athletes or those whose age was 1-2 years. It was determined that students who declared that they had coaching experience and took part in sports organizations had higher effective communication skills and leadership orientation. In the study, it was determined that there was a positive significant relationship between the participants' effective communication skills and leadership orientations. In addition, the finding that coaching experience and taking part in sports organizations has a positive effect on effective communication skills and leadership orientations shows that practical experiences can contribute to the development of these skills. Therefore, it is important to design training programs and leadership development activities taking these differences into consideration. The positive and significant relationship revealed by the research suggests that focusing on strategies to strengthen students' communication skills when designing training programs or leadership development activities may also positively affect their leadership abilities.
