Abstract

Results and Conclusion: As a result of the content analysis, five themes emerged as 1) Gender Dysphoria and Family, 2) Experiences of Domestic Violence, 3) School Experiences, 4) Gender Dysphoria and Society, 5) Coping Methods. These themes consist of different sub-themes and codes. According to the results of our study, the participants with gender dysphoria experienced violence in the family with different forms, especially psychological violence. Stereotyped gender roles and social expectations trigger violent behaviors. Participants have been exposed to many bullying behaviors, especially verbal bullying, such as teasing and name-calling throughout their school life, and gender-based educational environments cause many difficulties for students with gender dysphoria. Micro-aggression against those with gender dysphoria is very common in social areas. To deal with all these difficulties, approach and avoidance coping methods are frequently used. Responding directly, seeking instrumental-social support, and ignoring were the most frequently used coping methods. Keywords: Gender dysphoria, violence, coping
