Abstract

Multiple applications of 0.7 % Ca(OH)<inf>2</inf> at ten days intervals 30 (triple), 20 (twice) and 10 (single) days before harvest were sprayed to '0900 Ziraat', 'Lambert' and 'Van' (Prunus avium L.) sweet cherries. Ca(OH) <inf>2</inf> applications reduced cracking of all varieties in laboratory trials. Triple applications were better than the others. Fruit size decreased by all treatments and total soluble solids content (TSS) and firmness increased. The levels of the calcium in the fruit flesh and skin were increased by Ca(OH)<inf>2</inf> treatments. However, its effects on Mg, K, N and P contents were inconsistent. © ISHS 1998.
