Abstract
In Turkey, cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) is the most economically important member of the genus Brassica. Samsun province is one of the greatest cabbage producing areas in Turkey and has nearly 30% of the cabbage production of Turkey. Virus diseases on cabbage reduce production and decrease quality and marketing value. Surveys were done to determine the distribution of viruses in cabbage cultivated areas in Samsun in 2011-2013.According to the results of field observations, characteristic virus symptoms were observed on some cabbage plants. A total of 275 leaf samples was collected from cabbage fields in Samsun province and tested for the presence of Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV), Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV), Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), and Turnip yellow mosaic virus (TYMV) by DAS-ELISA using virus-specific commercial polyclonal antiserum. Result of serological tests showed that 8.36% and 3.63% of these samples were infected with Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) and Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV), respectively. The TuMV+CaMV mixed infection ratio was 0.72%. However, CMV and TYMV were not determined. CaMV was firstly reported in Brassicaceae crops in Samsun province by this study.
