Abstract

This chapter aims to review and summarize the principies of instructional material preparation for face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments. The design of mixed instructionalmaterials was firstdiscussed in lightof instructional design and technology literature. Multimedia learning, cognitive load theory, and universal designprinciples were considered the fundamentals of instructional material design. The framework has three dimensions: content type, fidelity, and course phase. In this framework, a hybrid form was offered instead of different forms of materials, but face-to-face and online modalities were also compared. The design and development categorizations were built upon the hybrid nature of the materials. This way, the framework can guide practitioners in designing efficient ways to create instructional materials. © 2023, IGI Global. All rights reserved.
