Artificial Intelligence-Themed Films in the Digital Publishing Ecosystem: A Comparative Analysis of Platform Strategies

Abstract

As digital publishing platforms undergo a significant transformation in content production, AI-themed films have become central to this shift. These platforms present such content through varying strategies-some focus on popular and accessible productions, while others prioritize philosophical and niche themes. This study examines how AI-themed films are represented on digital publishing platforms and how these narratives shape the broader media ecosystem. Through a comparative analysis of Netflix's JUNG_E and Apple TV+'s Swan Song, the study finds that while JUNG_E offers a critique of class exploitation and gender through an action-driven and dystopian narrative, Swan Song explores themes of individual consciousness through ethical and existential questions. In both films, the representation of the body and the boundaries between humans and artificial intelligence are addressed through cultural and ideological codes. Moreover, the content strategies of the platforms significantly influence the form and presentation of the films. © 2025, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
