Abstract
ABSTRACT Purpose: To determine intraocular pressure (IOP) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) following uncomplicated cataract extraction with phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Patients and Methods: 110 eyes of 1 10 patients were prospectively evaluated after phacoemulsification and IOL implantation in our clinic between April 2005 and October 2006. Measurements of ACD were performed using ultrasonography preoperatively and at 1 week and 1, 3,6 months postoperatively; measurements of IOP were performed using a Goldmann applanation tonometer preoperatively and at 1,3, 7 days and 1, 3, 6 months postoperatively. Results: The mean IOP levels measured postoperatively except postoperative 1 day were significantly lower than preoperative IOP levels (pO.01). Preoperative ACD levels are found to be significantly lower than all postoperative ACD levels (pO.01). While there is a negative correlation between the increase in ACD and decrease in IOP, this correlation was not found to be statistically significant (r=-017, p>0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that increases in ACD and decreases in IOP occur in selected patients who have not glaucoma after uncomplicated cataract extraction by phacoemulsification with IOL implantation..
