Since oral intake is insufficient in the majority of patients with esophageal cancer, nutritional status is impaired before the surgery. Adequate and effective nutritional support may increase tolerance to the treatment, shorten the hospital stay, and may positively affect the clinical course by reducing morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is important to take all of these patients under a very well defined nutrition program throughout the during treatment starting from the moment of diagnosis. © 2012 OMU.en_US
