Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection can be transmitted by sexual intercourse, blood and blood products, and vertically from infected mother to her offspring. Needle stick injuries and splashing of infectious material to mucosal surface have been implicated in occupational and nosocomially acquired in HIV transmission. In this review the epidemiology and preventive strategies of HIV infection in healthcare workers were summarized.
