Fen Bilgisi Öğretmen Adaylarının Mikroplastikler Konusundaki Farkındalıkları

Abstract

Bu araştırma, sürdürülebilir bir çevre açısından Fen Bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının 'Mikroplastikler' konusundaki farkındalıklarının belirlenmesi ve sınıf düzeylerine göre ilişkilerinin saptanması amacı ile yapılmıştır. Araştırma nicel araştırma yöntemi ile yürütülmüş olup genel tarama modeline göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, Eğitim Fakültesi Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı 1., 2., 3. ve 4. sınıfta öğrenim gören ve her sınıftan 52 kişi olmak üzere toplam 208 gönüllü öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen 'Mikroplastikler Farkındalık Testi' kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, frekans (f) ve One Way Anova testiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, Fen Bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının mikroplastik kavramını doğru ifade edemedikleri, birincil ve ikincil mikroplastik kavramları hakkında eksik bilgiye sahip olduklarından dolayı bu iki kavram arasında ayırım yapamadıkları görülmektedir. Adayların çoğunluğunda; mikroplastiklerin özellikleri, mikroplastiklerin oluştuğu ve oluşturduğu kaynaklara yönelik bilgi eksikliklerinin olduğu saptanmıştır. Mikroplastiklerin bulunduğu ürün gruplarına dair konularda ve ürün satın alımında önemli olan sembollere ve plastik ayak izine yönelik konularda adayların yeterli bilgiye sahip olmadıkları görülmektedir. Adayların özellikle gıda ürünlerinden bal ve tuzda mikroplastik olduğunu tüm sınıf düzeylerinde çok düşük oranda doğru cevaplamaları konu hakkında bilgilerinin yetersiz olduğunu göstermektedir. Adayların çoğunun plastik ve mikroplastiklerin toprağa, suya, insan sağlığına, çevreye ve ekosisteme olan etkileri ile bu etkilerin önlenmesine yönelik sorulara vermiş oldukları doğru cevaplar konuyla ilgili farkındalığa sahip olduklarını ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırmanın sonucunda Fen Bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının Mikroplastikler konusuna yönelik sınıf düzeylerine göre farkındalıklarının istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı farklılık göstermediği belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra 4. sınıfta öğrenim gören adayların aritmetik ortalamalarının diğer adayların ortalamalarından kısmen daha yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları dikkate alındığında Fen Bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının eksik bilgilerinin giderilmesi ve farkındalıklarının artırılması için üniversite eğitimleri süresince öğretim programlarında mikroplastik konusuna kapsamlı olarak yer verilmesi ve çeşitli eğitim etkinlikleri ile bilgilendirilmeleri büyük önem taşımaktadır.

This research was carried out with the aim of determining the awareness of prospective Science teachers about 'Microplastics' in terms of a sustainable environment and to determine their relationship according to grade levels. The study was conducted using a quantitative research method and was designed according to the general screening model. The study group of the research consists of a total of 208 volunteer teacher candidates, 52 from each class, studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of the Faculty of Education, Department of Science Education. The 'Microplastics Awareness Test' which is developed by the researcher was used as a data collection tool in the research. The data obtained was analyzed with frequency (f) and One Way Anova test. The study shows that science teacher candidates cannot express the concept of microplastic correctly and differentiate between the primary and secondary microplastic concepts due to their lack of information. It was determined that the majority of the candidates had lack of knowledge about the properties of microplastics, the formation of microplastics and the sources they formed. It is seen that the candidates do not have sufficient knowledge about the product groups in which microplastics are present, the symbols that are important in product purchase, and the plastic footprint. The fact that the candidates answered very little correctly at all grade levels, especially in honey and salt from food products, shows that their knowledge about the subject is insufficient. The correct answers given by most of the candidates to the questions about the effects of plastic and microplastics on soil, water, human health, environment and ecosystem and the prevention of these effects reveal that they have awareness on the given subject. As a result of the research, it was determined that the awareness of pre-service science teachers about Microplastics according to their grade levels did not show a statistically significant difference. In addition to this, it was concluded that the arithmetic averages of the senior year candidates were partially higher than the averages of the other candidates. Considering the results of the research, it is great importance that the subject of microplastics iscomprehensively included in the educational program during their university education and that they are informed through various educational activities in order to eliminate the missing information and increase the awareness of the prospective Science teachers.
