Abstract
This study aims to determine the attitudes of foreign students who come to Turkey to study at undergraduate and graduate levels but whose native language is not Turkish, towards learning Turkish as a foreign language. In addition to knowing their perceptions of Turkish culture and language, their language needs and the difficulty levels of learning Turkish as a foreign language, it also aims to identify the differences in the difficulty levels of learning Turkish. In addition to examining the language according to variables such as gender and age, it is also aimed to examine the similarities between the foreign student's native language and Turkish. The research was conducted on 360 students who received Turkish education at Ondokuz Mayıs University Turkish Teaching Application and Research Center (TÖMER) and whose Turkish level varied from A1 to C1 level. The data set was compiled by applying a five-point Likert scale to these students. The collected data were analyzed with the help of SPSS package program. After testing the normality of the collected research data, one-way analysis of variance was used to analyze normally distributed data, and Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskal Wallis-H test were used for non-normally distributed data. They face fewer difficulties in learning. The research also revealed that women have slightly more difficulties than men in learning Turkish, and that plans and methods should be developed equally at all levels in teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
