Abstract
ÖZET Bu çalışmanın amacı, üniversite öğretim elemanlarının duygusal zeka düzeylerini öğrenim düzeyi ve temel alan değişkenleri açısından incelemektir. Bu araştırmanın ömeklemi, 1052 üniversite öğretim elemanından oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada 'Duygusal Zeka ölçeği' ve 'Kişisel Bilgi Anketi' kullanılmıştır. istatistiksel analizler sonucunda üniversite öğretim elemanlarının duygusal zeka düzeylerinin toplam puan ortalamalarının, üniversite öğretim elemanların öğrenim düzeylerine (lisans, lisansüstü, doktora) göre anlamlı bir fark göstermediği, üniversite öğretim elemanlarının temel alanlarına (sosyal, sağlık ve fen) göre ise, duygusal zeka düzeyleri toplam puan ortalamaları arasında farkın anlamlı olduğu bulunmuştur. Elde edilen bulgular literatür ışığında yorumlanmış ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Bunlar; 1. Yüksek lisans ve doktora düzeyinde derslerin yanında üniversite öğretim elemanlarının duygusal zekalarını geliştirecek etkinliklere ve eğitsel çalışmalara da yer verilmelidir. 2. Üniversite öğretim elemanlarının duygusal zeka düzeyleri ile ilgili doğru sonuçlara ulaşabilmek için; öğretim11 elemanlarının cinsiyetleri, medeni durumları, öğrenim yaptığı üniversitelerin gelişmişlik düzeyleri gibi değişkenlerle duygusal zeka düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkilerin belirlenmesini konu alan çalışmaların yapılması yeni araştırmacılara önerilir.
Ill ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to analyse the emotional intelligence levels of the teaching staff in Turkish Universities in terms of their educational levels and their different fields of study. This study is fulfilled upon 1052 academicians of various universities. The informants of the study have been given 'Emotional Intelligence Inventory' and 'Personal Information Questionnaire'. The statistical results have shown that no significant difference is detected as to the total average scores of the emotional intelligence levels of the academicians with respect to their educational levels (BA/BS/MB, MA/MS, Ph.D/MD), whereas significant differences is detected as to the total average scores of the emotional intelligence levels of the academicians with respect to their different fields of study (humanities, medicine and science). The findings have been interpreted in the light of literature and some suggestions have been made. These are; 1. Along with the courses at the level of M.A. and Ph.D, social and educational programmes which will develop the emotional intelligences of the teaching staff should be put into life. 2. In order to reach reliable results about the levels of emotional inteligences of the teaching staff in Turkish Universities, it isIV recommended to the new researchers that such studies as that which determines the relationship between the variables like gender, marital status, and developmental levels of universities in which they are working, and the level of their emotional intelligences should be conducted.
