Abstract

The transformation of labour organization and recent technological developments proliferated and diversified the forms of surveillance on labour. The transition of the control mechanisms from physical labour to mental labour is discussed in the literature; however, almost all of the debates on control of labour processes address the workplace surveillance. Besides, the specific aspects of surveillance on women's labour are unseen like the unpaid work of women. Moreover, gendered dimensions of surveillance differentiate the surveillance experiences of female workers. The aim of this study is to discuss the labour surveillance with an alternative approach that focuses on women's labour. Based on in-depth interviews conducted with 15 women working in different conditions and professions in Samsun, the study attempts to explore experiences of women about surveillance in workplace and domestic area.
