Epilepsy is one of the most important central nervous system disorder and 1% of the total world population suffers from this disorder. Epileptic seizures results from the synchronized and abnormal discharges of the particular neuronal groups. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in the genesis of epilepsy a wide variety of experimental epilepsy models were developed and a large number of drugs and chemicals tested for their effects on epileptic seizures. Most of the researchers in the field suggested that excessive calcium entry into neurons is the main triggering event in the initation of epileptic discharges. Results of the studies conducted by our group also support this idea.en_US
