Abstract
The objectives of this study were to determinate relative feed value (RFV) and relative forage quality (RFQ) of rangeland plants and relationships between some quality criteria [crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF) neutral detergent fiber (NDF), FRV and metabolizable energy (ME)] and RFQ, and to formalize quality index regarding to RFQ. Plant examples were collected from Ladik Akdag and its around at five different time (from 5 May to 5 July, 2015 by 15 day intervals). Because availabilities of studied plants at the collection sites and/or sampling periods were different, the data with regard to RFV and RFQ were analyzed in a Randomized Parcels design when treatments have unequal number o f repetitions. To determinate the relationships between some quality criteria and RFQ was used Pearson correlation analysis. The RFV and RFQ o f rangeland plants decreased with ripening, but this decrease was extremely different among plant species. The RFQ displayed a higher positive correlation with the RFV (r=0.981) and ME (r=0.924) and a high inverse correlation with the ADF (r=0.924) and NDF (r=0.886) values (P<0.001). There was a less positive relationship between RFQ and HP (r=0.427, P<0.01). The quality indexes o f grasses, legumes and plants o f other families were ranged between 1 and 5 (Hordeum bulbosum 1 and Cynodon dactylon 5), 4-10 (Lotus corniculatus and Trifolium hybridum 10 and Vicia cracca 4) and 1-8 respectively. Results indicated that the RFV and RFQ of rangeland plants was varied depending on the collection period and plant species, the RFQ was correlated positive with the RFV and ME, and negative with the ADF and NDF, and legumes had a higher quality index.
