Abstract

Cecal volvulus is a cause of acute abdomen that results in serious morbidity and mortality if the diagnosis is delayed and thus calls for an early diagnosis. The contribution of clinical and examination findings to the diagnosis is very limited in these patients. Therefore, radiological imaging methods have a crucial role in making the diagnosis of cecal volvulus and determining its complications. Although there are case reports in the literature concerning cecal volvulus, imaging findings of quite uncommon type 3 cecal volvulus (bascule type) are limited. The purpose of this case report is to present the radiological imaging findings of a type 3 cecal volvulus case presenting with acute abdomen and developed intestinal necrosis and the contribution of computed tomography to the diagnosis.
