Abstract

The dynamic function of the epiglottis plays an important role in preventing the aspiration of foods into the trachea during deglutition. Abnormal epiglottic movement may cause swallowing and aspiration problems. Epiglottic calcification is a rare cause of abnormal epiglottic movement pattern and dysphagia. In this report, we present a case of epiglottic calcification caused by dysphagia and discuss the clinical and radiologic features of this very rare condition. ©2014 by Mutaz B. Habal, MD.
