Ortaokullarda Uygulanan Yabancı Dil Ağırlıklı Eğitimin Öğretmen, Öğrenci ve Veli Görüşlerine Göre Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitimle ilgili öğretmen, öğrenci ve veli görüşlerinin programların dört temel öğesine göre incelenmesi ve öğrencilere uygulanan başarı testi ile yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitimin öğrencilere sağlamış olduğu akademik gelişmeyi belirlemektir. Çalışma grubu tüm Türkiye'de yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitim veren ortaokullardan uygun örneklem yöntemiyle seçilen 305 İngilizce öğretmeni, 189 öğrenci ve 288 veliden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın veri toplama araçları öğretmen, öğrenci ve velilere uygulanan üç adet likert tipli anket ve öğrencilere uygulanan bir adet başarı testinden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada kullanılan ölçekler araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiştir ve ölçeklerin tümünde Cronbach Alpha katsayısı 0,80'den yukarı bulunarak ölçeklerin oldukça güvenilir olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada betimsel istatistiklerden, Oneway ANOVA ve post hoc testinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre; dört temel beceriler ile ilgili öğretmenler açısından en az gelişen beceri konuşma becerisidir. Öğrenci ve veliler içinse en az gelişen beceri yazma becerisidir. Öğretmenler konuşma becerisine yönelik kazanımların diğer becerilerden daha az gerçekleştiğini düşünmektedirler. Yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitim programın konuşma becerisini geliştirme odaklı olmasında öğrenci ve veliler öğretmenlere göre daha olumlu düşünceye sahiptir. Programının drama, gerçekçi materyaller ve uygulamalı etkinlikler ve grup çalışmaları yapmaya teşvik edici olması boyutunda öğretmen ve öğrenci cevapları oldukça olumlu olarak bulunmuştur. Çalışmanın geneline bakıldığında; veliler yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitim ile ilgili öğrenci ve öğretmenlerden daha olumlu görüşe sahiptir. Öğrencilerin yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitim ile ilgili görüşleri öğretmenlere göre daha olumludur. Yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitimin zorunlu değil isteğe bağlı olması konusunda öğrenciler öğretmen ve velilere göre daha olumlu görüş̧ bildirmişlerdir. Bu çalışmanın sonucuna göre tüm gruplar yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitimi desteklemektedir.

The main purpose of this study is to examine the opinions of teachers, students and parents about intensive foreign language education regarding the four basic elements of the curriculum and to determine the academic achievement provided to students with the achievement test. The study group consists of 305 English teachers, 189 students and 288 parents, who were selected from secondary schools that offer intensive foreign language education. The data collection tools in this study were developed by the researcher, and the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient for all tools were found to be above 0.80.Thus, it was concluded that the tools were quite reliable. Descriptive statistics, Oneway ANOVA and post hoc test were used in the study. According to the results of the research; the least developed skill for teachers is the speaking skill. Writing is the least developed skill for students and parents. Learning outcomes related to speaking skill are achieved less than other skills' learning outcomes according to teachers. Students and parents have more positive opinion than teachers in the intensive foreign language education program's focus on improving speaking skills. Teachers ' and students' responses were found to be quite positive in the dimension of the program's being encouraging for drama, realistic materials and applied activities and group work. Looking at the overall study; parents have more positive views than students and teachers. Students' opinions are more positive than teachers. Students expressed a more positive opinion than teachers and parents about intensive foreign language education should be optional rather than compulsory. All groups support intensive foreign language education.
