Objective: Research was conducted to determine the reliability and validity of Supportive Care Needs Survey for cancer patients. Material and Methods: This methodologic study was carried out with 340 cancer patients in the chemotherapy unit. The research data were collected with two tools, a "sociodemographic data form" related to the cancer patients, and the " Supportive Care Needs Survey". The study was conducted in two phases, Language and content validity were examined in the first phase. Second construct validity and reliability studies were conducted. Translation and back translation were performed to evaluate the language validity of the scale. Content validity was analysised by content validity index and Lawshe’s content validity ratio of their formula. For construct validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were employed. For reliability, internal consistency and cronbach alpha and test-retest analysis were employed constancy against time. Results: The coefficient of concordance between experts was found higher than the table values in the analysis for the content validity of the scale. In order to determine the construct validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed and KMO. 95, Barlett test χ2 value of 14575.24 (p <0.001) were found. In addition, five factor structure was obtained that describes the 81.0 % of the total variance. Item-factor structure obtained from the EFA has been tested for compliance with a model by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Three items in the original scale was removed from the scale of these substances because of their high correlation with other substances. Test-retest reliability were examined and statistically positive-significant relationship was found between them (p<0.01). Conclusion: It was concluded that Supportive Care Needs Survey, which composed of 5 subscales and falling 31 Items, is a valid and reliable tool for our community. © 2016 by Türkiye Klinikleri.en_US
