Abstract
In this study 61 Mus musculus domesticus Rutty, 1772 and 36 Mus macedonicus Petrov and Ruzíc, 1983 specimens, assigned to 22 geographic samples and collected between 2001-2008 in Turkey, were analyzed using alloenzyme electrophoresis.13 genes loci were studied to investigate both intraspecies and interspecies genetic variations. A total of 12 and 10 loci were found to be polymorphic in M. m.domesticus and M. macedonicus, respectively. The overall mean heterozygosity was H0:0.069 for M. m.domesticus populations and H0:0.153 for M. macedonicus populations. The mean value of genetic distance between the two species was relatively low (D: 0.008). No locus that distinguishes between Mus musculus domesticus and Mus macedonicus was found.
