Publication: Çocuk Acil Hemşirelerinin Tanıklı Resüsitasyona İlişkin Görüşleri: Nitel Bir Araştırma
Abstract
This study aimed to determine and evaluate the thoughts of pediatric emergency nurses about witnessed resuscitation. For this purpose, the population of the research conducted with qualitative method consists of pediatric emergency nurses working in Kayseri City Hospital, while the sample consists of 23 nurses working in Kayseri City Hospital Pediatric Emergency Service who volunteered to participate in the study. The research data was collected by the researcher between 15/07/2023-15/09/2023 through face-to-face interviews with a qualitative research form consisting of seven questions, and the obtained data were evaluated with qualitative analysis after analysis. Within the scope of the research, it was concluded that 86.95% of the nurses were partially knowledgeable about witnessed resuscitation, the majority had negative opinions about the family witnessing the resuscitation, and they thought that witnessing would negatively affect both the treatment process and the family. In addition, in witnessed resuscitation, the idea that nurses will be negatively affected by situations such as security, exposure to violence, and disruption of workflow has become dominant. The positive effects of the testimony process were expressed as the fact that the medical staff was seen to be doing their best and the number of cases decreased. While it is argued that individuals who want to witness resuscitation can witness the process with a psychological counselor if they are conscious, the statements put forward by nurses are also to raise public awareness in order to popularize the practice of witnessed resuscitation, to provide training to healthcare personnel, to increase security measures and develop institutional procedures, and to protect the rights of healthcare professionals by law. Among the findings of this study, pediatric emergency nurses generally have negative thoughts about witnessed resuscitation and think that the practice will not be beneficial. It is clear that this process will not be widespread in our country for a while and developments in this direction must be made. In light of the findings obtained in the study, it is seen that the psychological dimensions of the process are particularly important and psychological support must be provided.
