Abstract

Three patients that has open fractures and segmental bone defects were treated with autogen bone grafts. Bone defects were 2, 4, 9 cm. Two of the three cases were in the second metacarp, one was in the radius. Bone grafting were performed 1-3 months after the initial trauma. Bone union was seen at 2-4 months without infection or nonunion. At present, segmental bone defects are treated by vascularised bone grafts. However, nonvascularised bone grafts can also be used succesfully for the treatment of segmental bone defects.
