Abstract
Talking about God is a joint subject of philosophy and theology. However, the issue of how we can discuss God is the problem concerning the nature of religious language, which is a part of philosophy of religion. Throughout the history of thought, in the most general sense, the questions such as whether God exists, whether he is necessary being, what the proofs are for his existence or what the relationship is between the universe and the human had been answered diversely; however, when the twentieth century had began, the question altered its direction. From that time on, not the proofs for God or His existence but whether it is sensible to talk him was brought up for discussion; and no doubt this discussion is dominated by the philosophers of science who came up with the question itself in the first place. In this thesis, we have desired to frame what kind of a contribution we could make to religious language and talking about God by analysing Ibn Arabi's Fusûs al-Hikam. In the First Chapter, we have discussed the general structure of religious language, the fundamental arguments of logical positivism and the defensive attempts of the theist approaches such as the meaningfulness and functionality. In the Second Chapter, we have dealt with the issue of talking about God both in transcendent and immanent dimensions with quotations from Fusûs al-Hikam. Key Words: Religion language, transcendence, immanence, Ibn Arabi
