Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to examine the effect of care based on Swanson Care Theory on the stress levels of infertile couples and their approaches to coping with stress. Method: This research was conducted as a single-blind randomized controlled experimental intervention study. The research was conducted at Ondokuz Mayıs University Health Application and Research Center In Vitro Fertilization Center between July 2022 and June 2023, with 50 infertile couples who were diagnosed as primary infertile and started assisted reproductive techniques treatment. The couples were divided into two groups: 25 couples in the experimental group and 25 couples in the control group. Research data; It was obtained by applying the Sociodemographic Data Form, Infertility Stress Scale, and Infertility Stress Coping Scale forms. Data were analyzed with SPSS V28. Results: Stress levels in men and women who received care based on Swanson Care Theory were lower than in the control group (p<0.05). The stress rate is low in men and women who receive care based on Swanson Care Theory (p<0.05). When assisted reproductive techniques treatment fails, stress levels of men and women who receive care based on the Swanson Care Theory are lower than those in the control group (p<0.05). Active struggle, passive avoidance/ignoring, and meaning-based coping skills increased in men and women who received care based on Swanson Care Theory; stress and active avoidance/ignorance decreased (p<0.05). Stress and active avoidance/ignoring increased in men and women who did not receive care based on Swanson Care Theory (control group); Active coping, passive avoidance/ignoring, and meaning-based coping decreased (p<0.05). Conclusion: It has been determined that care based on Swanson Care Theory reduces the infertility stress level in infertile couples and improves their ability to cope with stress. Key Words: Infertile couple, infertility-related stress, coping with infertility stress, counseling, swanson care theory.
