Abstract

Discriminant analysis for organic and conventional producer respondents was computed and discussed in this paper. The main aim of the study was to identify variables that simultaneously and significantly discriminate organic hazelnut producers from their conventional counterparts in the Black Sea Region. The discriminant analysis showed that the two kinds of hazelnut producers were different, not only by classical indicators (synthetic vs. organic input use), but also some interesting indicators such as the information system, production system and some personal characteristics. Using these indicators, new producers can be classified in order to provide particular services to them by extension and research services, farmers' organizations and private companies.
