Publication: Sanal Aidiyet Ölçeği: Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması
Abstract
In this study, it was primarily aimed to develop a scale that can determine the virtual belonging levels of people. In addition, validity and reliability studies of the scale were also carried out. In this context, this study was conducted with 851 participants (305 people in the first stage and 546 people in the second stage). The data of the research were collected in 2021. In the scale development process, first of all, the literature was examined and social media platforms, which are virtual platforms, were determined. Then, the processes in the live broadcasts and other content of the content producers operating on these platforms were also followed. In the process in question, the roles and reactions of the followers were observed within the framework of the idea of virtual belonging. The item pool was created as a result of these observations and studies. The relevant item pool was organized with the opinions of 2 subject area experts and 3 Turkish and grammar (written expression) experts. Personal information form and the newly developed 'Virtual Belonging Scale' were used as data collection tools in the research. Virtual Belonging Scale was investigated through the item-total correlation, the significance of the 27% lower-upper group difference, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis in terms of the construct validity. In order to determine the reliability of the scale within the framework of internal consistency, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated. According to the results of the exploratory factor analysis, a three-factor structure consisting of 28 items and explaining 61.28 % of the total variance was obtained. These factors are; 'Virtual Trust and Virtual Solidarity, Virtual Contribution, Virtual Sharing'. The three-factor structure of the scale was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, it has been determined that the scale items can separate the upper and lower groups of 27 %. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was .96. As a result, a Virtual Belonging Scale (VBS) has been obtained, which has proven to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for measuring the virtual belonging levels of adults.
