Publication: Güney İtalya Lecce'de Barok Dönem (Xvıı. Yüzyıl) Kiliseleri
Abstract
In the second half of the XVI. century, Baroque, which emerged in Rome in Italy in line with the decisions taken in the Council of Trent, represented the art of the Catholic Reformation. Although the style that spread among countries in the 17th century had a common origin, it showed local characteristics according to the countries where it was applied due to geographical and historical differences. Although it exhibits different attitudes according to countries, enthusiasm and dramatic effect are among its unchanging characteristics. Baroque spread over the territory of Italy with the Catholic Reformation. In Lecce, located in the Puglia region of Southern Italy, Baroque style churches started to be built with the influence of Catholic orders. The historical processes, plans, architecture and decorations of the churches built in Lecce during the 17th century Baroque period have formed the subject of this thesis. Baroque art in Lecce in Southern Italy has developed as a new style as a result of the combination of local culture and external factors such as Rome and Spain. The plan and facade arrangements of churches designed in the Baroque period in Rome, Italy, set an example for the churches built in Lecce in the 17th century. However, the churches differed from the decorations of the Baroque churches designed in Rome due to the fact that they were built with Lecce stone, which can be processed easily. These decorations are reminiscent of Baroque art and Churrigueresque style that emerged in Spain. Keywords: Lecce, Baroque, Art, Architecture, Statue, Painting
