Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of pruning shears on cutting force of pear branches. In comparison of by-pass type pruning shears, branches of pear fruit of Deveci variety grown in Samsun region were used. Five different by-pass pruning shears were tested in 3 groups of diameters with 6 replications at 3 speed levels. Diameter values of Deveci varieties pear branches were included in the model as covariate and their effect was eliminated from the model and the effect of the design features of the shears on the shear force value was determined. The data were compared with statistical analyzes. According to the results obtained, the lowest shear force was obtained by the number 1 by-pass pruning machine with 42.82 N in the second diameter group and the highest shear force value by the number 5 by-pass pruning machine with 402.85 N in the third diameter group. When all the data were evaluated together, it was seen that the by-pass pruning shear No. 1 performed the same process by consuming less force than the other shears.
