Spinoza'nın Etik ve Politik Kuramında Duyguların Rolü

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze Spinoza's thoughts on emotions and to reveal that the concept of emotion has an unshakable place in Spinoza's philosophy, especially in his ethical and political theories. The study is limited to analyze Spinoza's works named Ethica, Theological-Political Treatise (Tractatus Theologico- Politicus) and Political Treatise (Tractatus Politicus). In the introductory part of the study, how emotions are understood throughout the history of philosophy until 17th century is shortly summarized. The difference of Spinoza's theory of emotion lies in that he does not consider emotions as irrational and does not argue that they should be eliminated completely from ethical and political realms, although he is a rationalist. Spinoza defines emotions as the different states of the body which increase or decrease the body's effective power, helps or hinders its activity, and the ideas of these states. Starting with this definition, it is going to be shown that emotions are not only subjective psychological conditions, but they are experiences that constitute and transform moral life and political structure. With this aim, first Spinoza's ontological and epistemological theory will be explained. While Spinoza's ontological theory is explained, the link of the principle of conatus and desire will be highlighted. Then, the details of Spinoza's theory of emotion with his differentiation of active and passive emotions are given. The relation of the passive and active emotions to conatus and the kinds of knowledge will be given too. On the basis of these chapters, Spinoza's moral doctrine and his notion of the state will be analyzed and their role in the practical sphere encompassing ethical and political order will be explored. According to Spinoza, understanding the human beings, their relation to each other, their place in the universe, their relation to God, and amelioration of all human conditions require the analysis and conception of emotions. At the end, what is important for Spinoza, is being capable of transforming the passive emotions into active emotions under the light of reason, of making oneself more active and competent according to the principle of conatus and so directing life to the good.

Bu çalışmanın amacı Spinoza'nın duygulara dair düşüncelerini çözümlemek ve duygu kavramının Spinoza'nın felsefesinde, özellikle etik ve politik kuramında, sarsılmaz bir yeri olduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma Ethica, Teolojik Politik İnceleme (Tractatus Theologico-Politicus) ve Politik İnceleme (Tractatus Politicus) adlı eserlerin çözümlenmesi ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Çalışmanın giriş bölümünde duyguların felsefe tarihinde 17. yüzyıla kadar nasıl anlaşıldığı kısaca özetlenmiştir. Spinoza'nın duygu kuramının farkı, onun rasyonalist bir filozof olmasına rağmen duyguları akıldışı olarak değerlendirmeyip etik ve politik alanın bütünüyle duygulardan arındırılması gerektiğini savunmamasıdır. Spinoza duyguları bedenin etki gücünü arttıran ya da azaltan, etkinliğine yardım eden ya da onu engelleyen farklı halleri ve bu hallerin fikirleri olarak tanımlar. Bu tanımdan yola çıkarak, çalışmada duyguların sadece öznel psikolojik durumlar olmadığı, onların ahlaki yaşayışı ve politik yapıyı kurucu ve dönüştürücü nitelikte deneyimler oldukları gösterilecektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda önce Spinoza'nın varlık kuramı ve bilgi kuramı izah edilecektir. Spinoza'nın varlık kuramı incelenirken özellikle conatus ilkesi ve bu ilkenin arzu ile ilgisi vurgulanacaktır. Daha sonra Spinoza'nın duygu kuramı, onun etkin ve edilgin duygu ayrımı çerçevesinde detaylıca göz önüne serilecektir. Etkin ve edilgin duygularla conatusun ve bilgi türlerinin bağı kurulacaktır. Çalışmanın devamında bu bölümler temelinde Spinoza'nın ahlak öğretisi ve devlet anlayışı çözümlenecek ve duyguların etik ve politik düzeni kapsayan pratik alanda edimlerimizi belirlemedeki rolü gösterilecektir. Spinoza'ya göre insanı, insanın diğerleriyle ilişkilerini, insanın evrendeki yerini, insanın Tanrı'yla ilişkisini anlamak ve insanın tüm koşullarını iyileştirmek duyguların çözümlenmesinden ve anlaşılmasından geçmektedir. Sonuç olarak Spinoza için önemli olan insanın aklın ışığında edilgin duygularını etkin duygulara dönüştürebilmesi, conatus ilkesi gereğince kendini daha etkin ve yetkin kılabilmesi ve böylece yaşamı iyiye doğru yönlendirebilmesidir.
