Abstract
DETERMINATION OF APPLE MITE SPECIES AND THEIR POPULATION DYNAMICS IN AMASYA PROVINCE This study was carried out in Amasya (Center) and Suluova, Merzifon, Taşova, Gümüşhacıköy, Göynücek, Hamamözü districts, during 1999- 2001. In this research mite species in the apple orchards of Amasya province and their seasonal fluctuations were determined. Surveys were done to determine mite species of Amasya province 135 apple orchards. During surveys, 17 mite species from the four suborders were found in the region. Of seven species which were identified as harmful mites, four species were found to be members of Tetranychidae, two species of Eriophyidae, and one species of Tenuipalpidae. Also, five species from Phytoseiidae belonging to Gamasida suborder, one species from Stigmaeidae and two species from Tydeidae belonging to Actinedida suborder, which are all benefical mite species, were determined. In addition to them, 1 species from Actinedida belonging to Astigmata suborder were found as neutral species. Tarsonemus karli Saronov et Mitrofanov, 1982, Acarus siro L., 1758 and Mediolata sp. of this species were new records for apple orchards in Turkey. The population dynamics of the mite species on leaves and branches for some species were investigated in two apple orchards in Amasya (Center), in which pesticide were not used in last five years. In this study, leaf samples were taken weakly during vegetation season but brunch samples were taken every fourth night taken during winter season. The population dynamics of the mite species except T. karli and Panonychus ulmi (Koch), 1836 were determined. Results of this research show that, the population of harmful mite species could not reach high levels in apple orchards in which pesticides were not applied. It was also determined that changes on temperature values and apple variety were important factors on the seasonal fluctuations of mite populations. Key Words: Apple, mite species, population dynamic
