Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Atakum Kampüsü Bağlamında Görsel Bildirişim Simgelerinin Tasarım ve Uygulama Sorunlarına Genel Bir Bakış ve Model Önerisi

Abstract

Görsel bildirişim, gösterge olarak bilinen anlamlı biçimlerden yararlanarak bir gönderici tarafından alıcı üzerinde etki yaratmak amacıyla belli bir bildiri aktarma eylemidir. Görsel bildirişim simgelerinin yazılı anlatımlara göre daha özlü bilgi aktarabiliyor olmaları tarih içerisinde sürekli kullanılmalarına neden olmuştur. Dünyanın birçok yerinde hastanelerde, otellerde, tarihi ve turistik yerlerde, otobüs terminallerinde, karayollarında, havaalanlarında, olimpiyatlarda, bilişim teknolojilerinde, üniversite kampüslerinde ve her türlü kullanım ürünlerinde görsel bildirişim simgeleri, insanlığın dil, kültür ve din gibi farklılıkları olsa da ortak sorunlarına görsel bir dil ortaklığı oluşturmak açısından yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır.Bu çalışma teorik ve pratik olmak üzere iki planda yürütülmüştür. Teorik planda yürütülen çalışmada, görsel bildirişim ve iletişimle ilgili kavramlar, algı, anlam, anlamlandırma, haberleşme, semiyotik, görsel bildirişim simgelerinin tasarım kriterleri, ilkeleri, yöntemleri ve yapısal özellikleri gibi konular araştırılmıştır.Pratik planda yürütülen çalışmada ise, Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Atakum Kampüsü bağlamında görsel bildirişim simgelerinin tasarım ve uygulama sorunları tesbit edilmiş, yeni görsel bildirişim simgeleri öneri niteliğinde hazırlanmış, daha sonra iç ve dış mekanda kullanılabilecek bir `Görsel Yönlendirme Sistemi' modeli önerilmiştir. Önerilen modelin başarı düzeyini belirleyebilmek ve eski yönlendirme sistemini değerlendirmek amacıyla kampüs içerisinde bir anket yapılmıştır. Anket sonuçlarından elde edilen bulgular, eski yönlendirme sisteminin sorunlu olduğunu, öneri niteliğinde hazırlanan görsel bildirişim simgelerinin ise insanlar tarafndan doğru algılandığını ve anlamlandırıldığını göstermiştir.

Visual information is a certain form of message sending so as to create an effect, by using meaningful shapes known as indicators, on the receiver. What has caused visual information symbols to be used continuously during the history is that visual information symbols, compared with written messages, can transfer more substantial information. In almost every part of the world visual information symbols have been widely used at hospitals, hotels, historical and touristic places, at the bus stations, on highways, at the airports, at olympic games, for data processing technologies, at university campuses and on all kinds of products currently used, in terms of forming a common visual language to help with the common problems of people although the humanity has some differences in language, culture and religion.This study has been carried out in both theoretical and practical grounds. In the study carried out theoretically, we have done researches on some subjects such as the concepts of visual information and communication, perception, meaning, semiotics; designing criteria of visual information symbols, their principles, methods and structural features.In the study carried out practically, in context with Atakum Campus of Ondokuz Mayıs University, we have first determined the problems with designing visual information symbols and applying them, and have prepared new symbols to propose and then we have suggested a model of ?Visual Guidance System? which can be used inside the buildings, and outside. In order to be able to determine the level of success of the model suggested, and to be able to evaluate the old guiding system, we have given a questionnaire to some people at the campus. The findings obtained from the results of the questionnaire have shown that the old guiding system has some problems, and that the visual information symbols prepared and proposed have been perceived and interpreted correctly by people.
