Publication: El Bileği Kemiklerinin Posteroanterior Radyografi Görüntüleri Üzerinden Morfometrik İncelenmesi
Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate some morphometric measurements of the wrist bones and the variations in wrist-related ratios obtained from these measurements based on age and gender in individuals aged 20-74 years, and to determine the normal average values. The study was conducted by examining the bilateral posteroanterior wrist radiographs of 300 individuals (150 males and 150 females) who applied to Ondokuz Mayıs University Health Practice and Research Hospital. Using the Horos Medical Viewer (Version 3.3, USA) program, length and angle measurements of the wrist bones were taken digitally from the radiographs. Additionally, wrist ratios were calculated from these measurements. Individuals were divided into three age groups: 20-39, 40-59, and 60 and above. Data were analyzed based on age and gender. According to the analysis results, all length measurements, except for ulnar variance, were found to be significantly higher in males compared to females (p<0.001). The carpal angle was found to be significantly larger in males compared to females (p<0.001). No significant gender difference was found in the measurements of radial inclination angle and radiocarpal angle (p>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between age groups in the radiocarpal angle measurement (p<0.05). However, no significant difference was found between age groups in the values of carpal angle and radial inclination (p>0.05). There were statistically significant differences in carpal height ratio, carpal radial ratio, and carpal ulnar ratio values according to age and gender (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in the alternative carpal height ratio value according to gender and age (p>0.05). Due to the frequent use of wrist morphometric measurements in the diagnosis and follow-up of wrist pathologies, it is necessary to establish a normal reference database specific to different populations and age groups. We believe that our study will contribute to future research in this subject. Keywords: Wrist, Morphometry, Radiography
