Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate ammonium removal from Yilanlidere landfill leachate by using zeolite supplied from Gordes (Manisa) region in Turkey. A series of adsorption experiments was conducted in ion-exchange columns. The breakthrough curves were constructed by plotting the effluent lead concentration normalized with respect to the influent lead concentration (C-e/C-0) versus bed volumes (BV). For this aim, it is firstly investigated effect of flow rate on removal efficiency at the continuously system. The best usage of column flow rate was determined 0.0043 cm/sec. in column system where it was implemented at three different flow rate, 0.0043, 0.0087 and 0.0173 cm/sec., respectively. At the other stage, effect of particul sizes which were -10+20 mesh and -35+45 mesh was examined in the column, fed by peristaltic pump at a constant flow rate of 0.0043 cm/sec. particul size of -35+45 mesh established that were the more economical and increased the capacity of removal. At the last stage, feasibility of regeneration was controlled and then after column operation, it was dissect interaction between rain water and waste zeolites.
