Ret ve Asimilasyonun Ötesinde Estetik Mesafeden Ahmet Mithat Efendi'ye Bakış

Abstract

Okurun edebi esere yönelmesiyle açılan mesafe, esere dair üretilen farklı anlam ve anlama olanaklarının zemini olarak kendi mahiyetini sorgulatır. Bu mesafenin niteliğine ve okurun edebi eser ile kurduğu ilişkinin sonuçlarını etkileyen dönüştürücü karakterine odaklanan bu çalışmada, okumanın estetik bir bakışla gerçekleşebilmesi için mesafenin gerekli bir öncül olduğu iddia edilmiştir. Okurun eserle mesafelenme biçimleri sonucu okuma tecrübesinin okur zemininde değişen tezahürleri, okur yorumlarında gözlenmesi olası sınırlılık ve çeşitlilik üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Mesafenin okur ve eser arasında varlık bulması, araya girmesi ile sıkça eleştirilen Ahmet Mithat Efendi'nin üslup ve anlatıcısına odaklanmayı mümkün ve gerekli kılmıştır. Çalışmada mesafe kavramı, okur edebi eser ilişkisi özelinde estetik mesafe şekliyle inşa edilerek incelenmiştir. Estetik mesafe kavramının, Edward Bullough, Hans Robert Jauss ve Paul Ricoeur'e referansla nasıl anlaşılabileceği ve bu mesafenin okur eser ilişkisinin sonuçlarını etkileme biçimi, Ahmet Mithat Efendi'nin Henüz 17 Yaşında ve Müşahedat romanları üzerinden açılmaya çalışılmıştır. Sonuçta okur eser arasındaki mesafenin, üretken bir potansiyel alan olarak anlaşıldığında okur yorumlarındaki sınırlılıkların aşılabileceği ve okurun eserce sürüklenip asimile olması yahut eseri reddetmesi gibi estetik dışı tepkileri önleyeceği görülmüştür. Bununla birlikte estetik mesafenin, eser üzerinden kendini yeniden inşa edecek okurun, reflektif bilinç geliştirmesine yardımcı olacağı da vurgulanmıştır. Bu çıkarımların üzerinden yapıldığı Henüz 17 Yaşında ve Müşahedat romanları, anlatıcının tüm müdahalelerine rağmen estetik mesafeden bakıldığında okuru farklı yorumların geriliminde bırakabileceği anlaşılmıştır. This study focuses on the transformative character of the distance and its effect on the relationship between the reader and the literary work. It argues that this distance is a necessary prerequisite for the reading experience to take place from an aesthetic perspective. The study addresses how the experiences of reading, shaped by the ways in which the reader distances themselves from the work, manifest in various forms, observing the possible limitations and diversity in the reader's interpretations. The presence of distance between the reader and the work, which often leads to criticism, has made it both possible and necessary to focus on Ahmet Mithat Efendi's narrative style and its narrator. In the study, the concept of distance is examined as aesthetic distance, within the context of the relationship between the reader and the literary work. The ways in which the aesthetic distance concept, drawing on the ideas of Edward Bullough, Hans Robert Jauss, and Paul Ricoeur, affects the reader-work relationship are explored through Ahmet Mithat Efendi's novels Henüz 17 Yaşında and Müşahedat. Ultimately, when the distance between the reader and the work is understood as a productive potential field, it becomes clear that the limitations in the reader's interpretations can be overcome, preventing aesthetic reactions such as the reader being passively absorbed by the work or rejecting it. Moreover, it is emphasized that aesthetic distance will help the reader, who will reconstruct the work through their engagement, to develop a reflective consciousness. From this perspective, Henüz 17 Yaşında and Müşahedat, despite the narrator's interventions, reveal that the reader can be left in the tension of differing interpretations when viewed from the lens of aesthetic distance.
