Abstract
AMAÇ: Bu çalışmanın amacı Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi aile hekimliği polikliniğine başvuran üniversite öğrencilerinde dismenore sıklığı, fonksiyonel ve emosyonel etkilenme durumunu belirlemektir. GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Kesitsel tipteki bu çalışma 15.02.2020-30.06.2021 tarihleri arasında Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi aile hekimliği polikliniğine başvuran üniversite öğrencilerine, sosyo-demografik özellikler ve dismenore öyküsü, Görsel Analog Skalası(VAS), Fonksiyonel ve Emosyonel Dismenore Ölçeğini içeren bir anket uygulandı. BULGULAR: Çalışmamızda dismenore sıklığı %86,3 bulundu. Çalışmaya katılan 204 öğrencinin yaş ortalaması 22,35±2,40 yıl idi. Son 1 yılda dismenoreye bağlı iş/okul devamsızlığı %36,4'dür. Öğrencilerin %12,6'sı hafif, %52,3'ü orta, %35,1'i şiddetli ağrı yaşadığını belirtti. Öğrencilerin %75'i aile bireylerinde de dismenore görüldüğünü belirtti. Öğrencilerin %58,3'ü dismenore yaşadığında ağrı kesici kullandığını belirtti. Öğrencilerin %77,8'i ağrı kesici dışında alternatif yöntem kullandığını belirtti.
PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of dysmenorrhea, functional and emotional affected status in university students applying to Ondokuz Mayıs University family medicine polyclinic. MATERIAL AND METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, a questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics and dysmenorrhea history, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Functional and Emotional Dysmenorrhea Scale was applied to university students who applied to the family medicine outpatient clinic of Ondokuz Mayıs University between 15.02.2020-30.06.2021. RESULTS: In our study, the frequency of dysmenorrhea was 86.3%. The mean age of 204 students participating in the study was 22.35±2.40 years. Work/school absenteeism due to dysmenorrhea in the last 1 year is 36.4%. 12.6% of the students stated that they experienced mild pain, 52.3% moderate pain, and 35.1% severe pain. 75% of the students stated that their family members also had dysmenorrhea. 58.3% of the students stated that they used painkillers when they experienced dysmenorrhea. 77.8% of the students stated that they used alternative methods other than painkillers. It was found that those who use painkillers for the treatment of dysmenorrhea, those who have severe pain according to the VAS, those who have been absent from school / work in the last 1 year, those who started to experience dysmenorrhea within 6 months to 2 years after their first period, have a high level of functional and emotional impact from dysmenorrhea. In our study, the functional impact of dysmenorrhea was found to be high in those who experienced dysmenorrhea with menstruation. CONCLUSION: The frequency of primary dysmenorrhea was found to be high in university students. In addition, those with severe pain according to the VAS, those who used painkillers for the treatment of dysmenorrhea, those who were absent from school/work in the last 1 year, were found to be highly affected by dysmenorrhea. Key words: dysmenorrhea, university student, functional and emotional impact
