Abstract
Amaç: Bu çalışmada cep telefonlarından yayılan elektromanyetik alanın, beyincik üzerine etkilerinin araştırılması ve olası zararlı etkilerin antioksidan özelliklere sahip olan Garcinia kola, timokinon ve Momordica charantia uygulaması ile azaltılıp azaltılamayacağının gösterilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada; 8-10 haftalık, 200-250 gram ağırlığında 24 adet Wistar albino türü dişi sıçan eşit sayıda hayvan içeren 8 gruba ayrıldı. Elektromanyetik alan grupları 21 günlük gebelik süresince günde 1 saat olacak şekilde 900 MHz elektromanyetik alana maruz bırakıldı. Kontrol grubu ve antioksidan gruplarına herhangi bir elektromanyetik alan maruziyeti uygulanmadı. Doğum sonrası 4 hafta anneleriyle kalan yavrulara hiçbir işlem uygulanmadı. Sonrasında her anneden rastgele 2 yavru alınarak, her grupta 6 hayvan bulunacak şekilde gruplar oluşturuldu. Perfüzyon sonrası elde edilen beyincik dokularından alınan örnekler üzerinde stereolojik analizler ve histopatolojik değerlendirmeler yapıldı. Stereolojik analiz kapsamında Purkinje hücrelerinin toplam sayısı fiziksel parçalama yöntemiyle sayıldı. Bulgular: Fiziksel parçalama yöntemiyle hesapladığımız toplam Purkinje hücre sayıları bakımından gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ölçüde bir farklılık gözlenmedi. Histopatolojik bulgular incelendiğinde elektromanyetik alan maruziyetinin beyincik dokusu üzerinde farklı derecelerde yapısal bozulmalara neden olduğu gözlenirken, uygulanan antioksidanların belirgin bir koruyucu etkisi saptanmadı. Tartışma ve Sonuç: Prenatal dönemde 900 MHz elektromanyetik alan maruziyeti, beyincikteki toplam Purkinje hücre sayısını etkilemedi. Işık mikroskobu düzeyinde EMF maruziyet grubunda gözlenen histopatolojik bulgular, Momordica charantia, timokinon ve Garcinia kola uygulanarak patolojik değişikliklerin geri döndürülemeyeceğini gösterdi. Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of the electromagnetic field emitted by mobile phones on cerebellum and to show whether the potential harmful effects could be reduced by the application of Garcinia kola, thymoquinone and Momordica charantia, which have antioxidant properties. Materials and Methods: Twenty four female Wistar albino rats, 8-10 weeks old and weighing 200-250 g, were divided into 8 groups. Electromagnetic field groups were exposed to 900 MHz electromagnetic field for 1 hour a day during 21 days of pregnancy. Control and antioxidant groups were not exposed to electromagnetic field. There was no procedure applied to the offspring who stayed with their mothers for 4 weeks after birth. Then, two offspring were taken from each mother and the groups were designed to consist of 6 animals. Stereological analysis and histopathological evaluations were performed on the sections taken from the cerebellum tissues obtained after perfusion. Total Purkinje cell number was counted by physical fractionator method in the context of stereological examination. Results: The total Purkinje cell number estimation that was calculated by physical fractionator did not differ statistically between groups. The examination of the histological findings showed a structural deterioration in different degrees of the electromagnetic field exposure on the cerebellum tissue, while there was no significant protective effect of the applied antioxidants detected. Conclusion: The 900 MHz electromagnetic field exposure during the prenatal period did not affect the total Purkinje cell number in the cerebellum. The histopathological findings observed in the EMF exposure group at the light microscopic levels showed that pathological changes could not be recovered by applying Momordica charantia, thymoquinone, and Garcinia kola.
