Publication: Hemşirelerin Afetler İçin Psikolojik Hazırlığının Afet Hemşireliği Yönetimi Yetkinliklerine Etkisinde Genel Öz Yeterliğin Aracı Rolü
Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of general self-efficacy in the effect of nurses' psychological preparedness for disasters on their disaster nursing management competencies. Method: This study is a descriptive and correlational research. The population of the study consisted of 1372 nurses working in a university hospital and a public hospital. The sample of the study consisted of 401 nurses who were reached by convenience sampling method and accepted to participate in the study. The research data were collected between 01 October 2023 and 30 March 2024. The data were collected face-to-face with paper and pencil method using Descriptive Information Form, the Psychological Preparedness for Disaster Threat Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Competencies for Disaster Nursing Management Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, difference statistics and used to analyze the data. Results: . The mean psychological preparedness score of the nurses for disaster threat was found to be 61.46±11.35. The mean score of nurses' general self-efficacy was found to be 30.89±5.05. The mean score of nurses' competencies for disaster nursing management was found to be 6.40±1.21. A statistically significant, positive, weakly strong relationship (s=0.310; p<0.001) was found between the competencies for disaster nursing management of nurses and the psychological preparedness for disaster threat scores, and a significant, positive, and weakly strong relationship (s=0.220; p<0.001) was found between the general self-efficacy total score. In addition, as nurses' psychological preparations for disaster threats increase, their general self-efficacy level also increases. Nurses' general self-efficacy has a partial mediating role in the effect of nurses' psychological preparation for disasters on their disaster nursing management competencies Conclusion: It was determined that the psychological preparedness for disaster threat and general self-efficacy of the nurses were at a good level and their competencies for disaster nursing management were at a moderate level. As the psychological preparedness of nurses for disaster threat and their general self-efficacy level increased, their competencies for disaster nursing management also increased. In addition, as the general self-efficacy level of nurses increased, their psychological preparedness for disaster threat increased. Nurses' general self-efficacy has a partial mediating role in the effect of nurses' psychological preparedness for disasters on their disaster nursing management competencies.
