Abstract
Tanzimat döneminin eğitim alanında getirdiği önemli yeniliklerden olan sultaniler ve idadiler, birer ortaöğretim kurumu olarak açılmıslar, ancak nizamnâmelerde belirtilen oranlarda yaygınlastırılamamıslardır. Söz konusu okullar, Müslim ve gayrımüslim ayırt edilmeksizin bütün Osmanlı tebaasına açık olacak ve Batı tarzında eğitim verecek sekilde planlanmıstır. Devlet bu yolla hem eğitimde çağdaslasmayı, hem de Osmanlılık düsüncesi etrafında azınlık grupların ayrılıkçı düsüncelerini engellemeyi hedeflemistir. Her ne kadar bu okulların ders müfredatlarında Avrupa dikkate alınmıs, çesitli ders araç-gereçleri getirilmeye çalısılmıssa da, söz konusu okulların tam anlamıyla çağdas okullar olduğunu ve Osmanlılık fikrinin yerlesmesini sağladıklarını söylemek pek mümkün görünmemektedir.

But they hadn?t been made prevalent as much as it had been pointed by regulatory decisions. These school would had been for both müslim and non-müslim citizen and they had been planned like european education system. In this way, the goverment had aim to both modernizing the education system and hındering the minority separatist ideas by comitting the idea Osmanlılık. Although, Europe had been taken as a sample for the course items and had been tried to bring different school equipment, it is hard to say that these schools were completely modern schools nor accomplished to establish the idea Osmanlılık
