Publication: Ortaokul 7. Sınıf Öğrencilerinde Evsel Atıklar ve Geri Dönüşüm Konusunda Bilimsel Karikatürler Kullanılarak Farkındalık Oluşturulması
Abstract
Bu araştırma, bilimsel karikatürler içeren çalışma yaprakları kullanılarak 7. sınıf öğrencilerinde 'Evsel Atıklar ve Geri Dönüşüm' konusunda farkındalık oluşturulması ve kullanılan çalışma yapraklarının öğrencilerin konuya yönelik motivasyonlarına etkisinin belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılmıştır. Araştırma nicel ve nitel verilerin birlikte kullanıldığı karma araştırma yöntemine uygun olarak yapılmıştır. Araştırma, temel amacına uygun olarak ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desenine göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Samsun ilinin Bafra ilçesinde bir devlet ortaokulunda 7. sınıfta öğrenim gören 22 deney ve 22 kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 44 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. 'Evsel Atıklar ve Geri Dönüşüm' konusunda deney grubunda bilimsel karikatürler içeren çalışma yaprakları, kontrol grubunda ise uygulamadaki yöntem kullanılarak öğretim yapılmıştır. Her iki grupta da haftada 4 ders saati olmak üzere toplam 8 ders saatinde tamamlanmıştır. Araştırmada 'Evsel Atıklar ve Geri Dönüşüm Bilgi Testi' uygulama öncesi ön test ve uygulama sonrası son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Deney grubu öğrencilerine yapılan bilimsel karikatür içerikli uygulamanın motivasyonlarına etkisini belirlemek amacıyla 'Motivasyon Değerlendirme Formu', bilimsel karikatürler hakkındaki görüşlerini belirlemek için de 'Yarı Yapılandırılmış Görüşme Formu' uygulama sonrasında uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada 'Evsel Atıklar ve Geri Dönüşüm Bilgi Testi' ile elde edilen nicel veriler frekans (f) olarak analiz edilmiştir. Motivasyon değerlendirme formları, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları ve çalışma yapraklarından elde edilen veriler ise içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda deney grubuna uygulanan bilimsel karikatürlerle yapılan öğretimin, kontrol grubuna uygulanan yönteme göre öğrencilerde evsel atıklar ve geri dönüşüm konularına yönelik farkındalıklarını ve akademik başarılarını artırdığı belirlenmiştir. Deney grubuna uygulanan bilimsel karikatürlerin, bu gruptaki öğrencilerde atık çeşitlerini daha iyi tanınması, geri dönüşümün çevre kirliliğini azalttığı ve hangi atıkların geri dönüşümünün olduğu ve olmadığı konularına yönelik farkındalık oluşturduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra organik atıkların kompost olabileceği ve tehlikeli atıkların kontrollü şekilde imha edildikleri konularında da farkındalık oluştuğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğrenciler, bilimsel karikatürlerle yapılan öğretim sonucunda evsel atıklar ve geri dönüşüme yönelik motivasyonlarının arttığını, işlenen dersi daha çok sevdiklerini, derslerin daha eğlenceli geçtiğini, başka konu ve derslerde de karikatür kullanılmasını istediklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Ders boyunca yapılan tartışmalarla ise kendi düşünceleriyle arkadaşlarının düşüncelerini karşılaştırdıkları ve bu doğrultuda fikirleri birleştirerek yeni bilgiler edindiklerini ve yanlış bilgilerini düzelttiklerini ifade ederek tartışmaların faydalı olduğunu belirtmişlerdir.
This research was carried out with the aim raising awareness on the Subject of Household Wastes and Recycling in 7th grade students by using worksheets containing scientific cartoons and determining the effect of the used worksheets on the students motivation towards the subject. The research was conducted in accordance with the mixed research method, where both quantitative and qualitative data were used together. The research was designed according to the quasi-experimental design with pre-tes and post-test control groups in accordance with its main purpose. The study group of the research was consisted of 22 experimental and 22 control group and a total of 44 students in the seventh grade of a public secondary school in Bafra district of Samsun. The subject of Domestic Wastes and Recycling was taught to the experimental group by using worksheets containing scientific cartoons, and to the control group by using the method in practice. Both groups completed a total of 8 lesson hours in two weeks, 4 lesson hours per week. Domestic Wastes and Recycling Information Test was applied as pre-test before application and post-test after application. After the application, in order to determine the effect of the application of scientific cartoon on the motivation of the experimental group students, the Motivation Assessment Form and so as to determine their views on scientific cartoons the Semi-Structured Interview Form were applied. In the research, quantitative data obtained fron Domestic Wastes and Recycling Information Test were analyzed as frequency (f). The data obtained from the motivation evaluation forms, the semi-structured interview forms and the worksheets was analyzed with content analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that teaching with scientific cartoons applied to the experimental group increased the students' awareness and academic achievement on household waste and recycling compared to the method applied to the control group. It was concluded that the scientific cartoons applied to the experimental group had better recognition of the types of waste among the students in this group and that the recycling reduced environmental pollution and created awareness about which wates were recycled or not. In addition to this, it is observed that organic wastes can be composted and that hazardous wastes are disposed of in a controlled manner. Furthermore, students stated that their motivation towards domestic wastes and recycling increased as a result of teaching with scientific cartoons, they liked the lesson more, the lessons werw more fun and they wanted to use cartoons in other subjects and courses. Through the discussions made during the course, the students stated that the discussions were useful by expressing that they compared their own thoughts and their friends' ideas, accordingly they gained new information by combining the ideas, they corrected their wrong knowledge.
