Abstract
Amyloidosis is characterized by accumulation of an abnormal fibrillary protein in the extracellular space of different tissues and organs. Amyloidosis may be primary or secondary to some other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic inflammatory diseases and malignancy. Amyloidosis has three forms according to systemic involvement and these are called primary systemic amyloidosis, secondary systemic amyloidosis and localized amyloidosis. Localized lingual amyloidosis is a rare condition and it is generally secondary to systemic diseases. In this article, a very rare case diagnosed as amyloidosis with involvement of the tongue and treated by surgical excision is presented. © 2009 OMÜ Tüm Haklari Saklidir.
