The Determination Growth Performance And Some Body Sizes Of Lambs In Qaradolaq

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the growth performance and various body measurement values of lambs in Qaradolaq sheep reared in Azerbaijan. Lambs were weighed in 15-day intervals until the weaning age of 90 days in this study. In addition, withers height, chest depth, body length, rump height was determined using a measuring cane and hind shank cannon bone circumferences were determined by using measuring tape at the aforementioned intervals. The mean body weight of lambs at birth was 3.23 kg, while the 90-day weaning weight was 23.49 kg. The mean wither height, breast depth, body length, rump height and posterior cannon bone circumference of lambs at weaning age were 53.00 cm; 23.35 cm; 51.88 cm; 52.51 cm and 8.81 cm, respectively. As a result, in addition to the growth performance and various body size measurements of Qaradolaq lambs, the feeding performance, meat quality and milk yield characteristics would complete the information about this sheep type and shed light on future breeding works. © 2020 Ataturk Universitesi.
