The structure of 2-aminopyridinium benzoate was studied. Cyclic eight-membered hydrogen-bonded rings exist in the compound, C<inf>5</inf>H<inf>7</inf>N<inf>2</inf>+·C<inf>7</inf>H<inf>5 </inf>O<inf>2</inf>-, involving the 2-aminopyridinium and benzoate bonds. The compound was prepared by mixing 2-aminopyridine and benzoic acid in a 1:1 molar ratio in ethanol (95%) at 353 K. Each benzoate ion had two intramolecular hydrogen bonds.en_US
