Virginia Woolf'un Bn. Dalloway, Deniz Feneri, Dalgalar Adlı Romanlarında İletişim Eksikliği ve Yabancılaşma

Abstract

ÖZET Günümüzde tüm dünyada romanları okunan, özellikle akademik çevrelerde büyük ilgi gören, Virginia Woolf modernist İngiliz romanının öncülerinden biridir. Woolf için yaşamın gerçekleri 'maddesel' değil 'ruhsal'dır. Woolf romanlarında insanın dış dünyasından daha çok iç dünyasına ilgi duyar ve insanın iç dünyasında yaşadığı sorunları ele alır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Virginia Woolf un Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, ve The Waves adlı romanlarında iletişimsizlik ve yabancılaşma sorunlarını incelemektir. Bu çalışma, giriş, üç ana bölüm, ve sonuç olmak üzere beş kısımdan oluşur. Giriş bölümünde yirminci yüzyıl başlarında İngiliz edebiyatım etkileyen gelişmeler, modernist İngiliz romanı ve geleneksel roman arasındaki farklar ve Woolf un sanatı hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Diğer üç ana bölümde ise romanlar kronolojik sıraya göre iletişimsizlik ve yabancılaşma sorunları açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonunda Woolf un Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse ve The Waves adlı romanlarında iletişimsizlik ve yabancılaşma sorunlarının var olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

Ill ABSTRACT Today, Virginia Woolf, whose novels are widely read all over the world, especially in academic surroundings, is one of the pioneers of the modernist English novel. For Woolf the facts of life are 'spiritual' rather than 'material' and they are related with the 'inner life' and the 'experimental experience' of the human being. Thus, Woolf focuses more on the 'spiritual' matters of her fictional characters in her novels. The purpose of this study is to search for the lack of communication and the alienation in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves. This thesis consists of an introduction, three main chapters, and a conclusion. In the introduction, a short information is given about the changes affecting the early twentieth century British novel and the differences between the traditional and the modernist novel including the information about Virginia Woolf s art of fiction. In the main chapters, the novels are studied according to chronological order. In each chapter, the aim is to find out whether there exists any lack of communication and the alienation among the major characters in the novels. The final chapter has concluded with the fact that there exists the lack of communication and the alienation among the major characters in Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves.
